Gangotri is considered one of the four Hindu shrines. It is said to be the mythological source of the Ganga river and the spot where Bhagirath worshiped Lord Shiva and mother Ganga descended on Earth. Lord Shiva is said to have received the river in his matted locks at Gangotri.
Gaumukh 4000m is the source of river Bhagirathi and is also considered the true source of river Ganga.
Tapovan (4400m) is an area beyond Gaumukh consisting of a beautiful meadow at the feet of Mt. Shivling. Crossing Gangotri glacier is challenging for every trekker and adventurer and is mostly for those who like to go beyond the Gaumukh.

Rishikesh / Uttarkashi
(Altitude 1200m)
After breakfast drive to Uttarkashi – A major town in Northern Garhwal is a stopover point on the way to Gangotri Temple. A distance of 185 km will be covered in about 5/6 hrs. Check in to hotel on arrival. Evening visit local market and famous Kashi Viswanath Temple. Overnight in hotel.
Uttarkshi / Gangotri
(Altitude 3050m)
Leave for Gangotri – A famous Hindu shrine in at an altitude of 3048m. It is a myth that sage Bhagirathi did severe meditation to pleased Goddess Ganges here, so River Ganges started flowing. The River is known as Bhagirathi until it reaches Deopryag. The temple was originally constructed by Gorkha commander Amar Singh Thapa in the 18 century. Nearby is the rock on which Shiva is said to have received the Ganges in his matted locks. After arrival check in to hotel. Evening explore the surroundings.Overnight in hotel.
In Gangotri
Full day sightseeing of Gangotri area and acclimatization. Visit Suraj kund, Gauri kund, Bhim cave, Ganga temple, worship in temple etc. Packing and preparation for trek. Overnight in hotel.
Gangotri / Bhojbasa
(Altitude 3800m.Trek14km)
After breakfast trek starts to Bhojbasa (3800m) with packed lunch. This trek follows the right river bank and scenic view of some snow caped mountains like Mt Bhagirathi I, II and III, Mt. Sudarshan etc. After 9 km trek we will arrive Chirbasa which is on the tree line. From here we can have a clear view of the Bhagirathi group of peaks. Beyond Chirbasa the terrain becomes really desolate and barren. In fact, it has been referred to as the Arctic Tundra by many trekkers. 5 more km continue walk will take us to our camp area Bhojbasa . A distance of 14 km will be covered in about 5-6 hrs. Overnight in Tent.
Bhojbasa / Gaumukh/ Tapovan

From Bhojbasa 4 km ahead is Gaumukh – Is where the waters of Ganges trickle down from the Glaciers. The sages called it ‘Gaumukh’ because in the distant past, it probably appeared like a cow’s mouth; though today, it no longer appears so. Today we can get the first glimpse of Mt Shivling, like an ice-cream cone rising towards the sky. After a short break at Gaumukh we start our further trek to Tapovan. We walk 2 hrs in Gangotri glacier, one has to very careful for open crevasses and loose boulders while crossing the glacier. After crossing the glacier we would take a break just next to the river Amar Ganga which looks which turned into a gorgeous water fall. 1 more hour steep climbing to get Tapovan. After this tiring walk one will feel so satisfied when Mt. Shivling 6545m welcome here. Where ever you turn your face snow capped mountains like Mt Meru, Mt Vasuki, Mt Bhagirathi and more are smiling with you. Camp site is next to river Amar Ganga and just below of Mt Shivling. Dinner and overnight stay in tent.
In Tapovan
After early breakfast today excursion to Nila Tal( blue lake) 4600m and Meru Glacier. Take picture of close view of Mt Meru . Great experience while we walk in moraine. Pack snacks meanwhile. Later we have to face very steep down to come back to Tapovan which is very exciting and thrilling. Hot lunch in our camp site. Early dinner and overnight stay in tent.
In Tapovan
Today excursion to another place called Khara pathar, then to Kirti Glacier. This Glacier leads to Mt Kedardome 6800m. The trek follows the Gangotri Glacier. This is a full day very scenic walk so we have to carry pack lunch. Evening come back to our base camp Tapovan for dinner and overnight.
Tapovan / Chirbasa
Very carefully walk down to Gangotri glacier, then cross the glacier and reach Gaumukh! From here easy walk to get Chirbasa for our tented accommodation.
Chirbasa / Gangotri / Uttarkashi
After breakfast we would start our trek till Gangotri. Board on our waiting car and start drive to Uttarkashi. After arrival Uttarkashi check into the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel.
Uttarkashi / Rishikesh
Drive back to Rishikesh
